Green Juice - Good Health Booster


My MIL was in from Kerala this week and she has been propagating the use of green juice for a long time now apart from ayurveda and accupressure. Her day starts and end with this juice which is made with all the green leaves and a few vegetables. Its a very good tonic to cleanse one's blood stream, skin and also helps in cell repair. We are in this fast paced world where we do not get time to even take care of our health and our own body's needs. Exercise and Yoga are a few things which all of us want to do but due to lack of commitment  we never seem to find time!! This time over the weekend we were on some green juice treatment and its taste was not that bitter as I expected it to be. This juice was indeed tasty and you just need to have a small cup of it regulary for 21 days to see the wonderful benefits on your system. 21 days is generally prescribed for most of the practices so that it gets into your day to day routine and system. 

The early morning walk started with some edible leaf purchasing with all the vegetable vendors.Its always good to prepare this green juice fresh and do not store it as it may lose its nutrient value.  You may buy any leaf which is green in color, should be edible and should not be poisonous.

Here is the way we went about preparing the green juice to serve four in the family 
Karma Yoga 
1 bunch coriander leaves
1 Bunch curry leaves
1 Bunch Pudina (mint) leavess
1 bunch Methi leaves
1 bunch palak leaves 
Some Tulsi (Basil) Leaves 
A Few Neem Leaves
A Few Vilva Leaves 
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp lime 
One small piece of ginger 
One small piece of Aloevera 
1/2 cucumber 
One small piece of carrot and 1 piece of radish 
You can also add wheat grass if you wish to or celery 


Clean all the leaves and put them into the mixer and grind it into a fine paste with little water, strain and serve.

Green Juice Provides us with the Enzymes that we need to cleanse, detoxify and renew at a cellular level. Enzymes are also needed to digest food. We cannot have amazing health without enzymes. Cooking and processing of any type destroys all enzymes, so raw food, especially greens, is absolutely essential to maintain healthy enzyme levels. A daily green juice is a sure way to maintain enzyme levels as they are alkaline and contain a lot of minerals, vitmains and enzymes. This juice can even be given to children as they may not like a few vegetables but may drink it in the form of juice. 

Green leaves can surely get you into the pink of health!!! Trees and plants are worshipped in our country. So go for it, do not delay. If you can start of with just making a juice with 2 or 3 leaves from your garden please go ahead and make the healthy beginning. Its never too late.

  1. Oh Janaki, I dont beleive anything looking so green can taste good. My mum is huge into these juices... but all of them taste... YUCKY!!

    But I'll take your work ... and try this one.. for sure!! Will keep you posted.

  2. dear patricia, its the piece of carrot which gives a sweet taste to the entire juice!! May be you could add little honey for it to taste sweet.
